About Scott J. Allen
Scott J. Allen, Ph.D. started his career in the not-for-profit sector, developing award-winning programs designed especially for the needs of emerging leaders. He went on to work for a medical center in Kentucky managing its leadership development efforts. In 2005, Scott formed the Center for Leader Development, an organization created to provide resources, tools, and services to businesses, organizations, and schools seeking to build leadership capacity in their employees, members or students.
Scott is a visiting assistant professor at John Carroll University where he teaches courses in leadership and management skills. In 2008, Scott was voted the favorite teacher in the Boler School of Business. He also served as a Presidential Fellow at Case Western Reserve University where he taught Leadership in Modern Society. Scott is a graduate of The Art and Practice of Leadership Development, an executive education program of the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
He is published in the Encyclopedia of Leadership and co-authored A Charge Nurse’s Guide: Navigating the Path of Leadership, a leadership book for health care professionals. Scott is the co-author of Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: A Guide for College Students (Jossey-Bass) and co-authored The Little Book of Leadership: 50 Tips to Accelerate Leader Potential in Others (Moonlight Publishing) which goes to press spring 2009. In addition, Scott has articles published in the Journal of Leadership Educators, Advances in Developing Human Resources, Leadership Review, The International Leadership Journal, The OD Journal, SAM Advanced Management Journal, and Leadership Excellence. He recently completed a book chapter for the China Executive Leadership Academy Pudong entitled A Review on Leadership Education and Development Outside China and is a contributing author to the book Leadership: The Key Concepts.
In addition to writing and speaking, Scott consults, facilitates workshops, and leads retreats across industries and is an associate with the Larry Morrow Group. Scott is involved with the Institute for Creative Leadership, LeaderShape, the International Leadership Association, the Organization Development Institute and serves on the board of trustees of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Since 2007, he has served as a Sam Walton Fellow for Student’s in Free Enterprise (SIFE). Scott also served on the boards of the Cleveland Coach Federation, and the Organization Development Connection.
He resides in Cleveland Heights, Ohio with his wife, Jessica, and son, Will.
